ESCAPE TO THE FRENCH RIVIERA WITH MISIA

MISIA PARIS is a French editor and designer of glamorous fabrics & wallcoverings. The brand is inspired by Misia Sert, the queen of Paris in the Roaring Twenties, a talented pianist, artist’s muse and companion of Coco Chanel and Ernest Hemingway.

Through its collections inspired by Misia’s travels and encounters, the brand creates an emotional and sensory experience for the world of interior design. Each season presents a new voyage, artistic or cultural experience. The first collection started in Paris, the cradle of Art and Design at the beginning of the last century. Since then the brand has continued its journey to the Land of the Rising Sun in 2017, along the streets of Rio and the Green Eldorado in 2018, to the heart of the neo-classical Akropolis in 2019 and following the tracks of the luxurious Orient-Express to the edges of Europe in 2020.

In 2021, MISIA PARIS invites you on a journey to the French Riviera. A promise of a never-ending summer, a trip along the Mediterranean, the heady scents of fruits and citrus on the stalls, of lavender and violet, of thyme and oleander, of umbrella pines and cypresses… you have arrived.

The adventure starts at the Western edge of the French Riviera and the extraordinary colourful creeks of Cassis and Figuerolles, to the Cote d’Azur, passing through buzzing Saint Tropez, sparkling Cannes and majestic Monaco. Imagine yourself sipping a cocktail on the Croisette, lifting your face to the caress of the sun’s rays, contemplating the white sails against the azure blue of the sky.

This coast conceals small islands of calm and poetic oasis – such as the Ile d’Or off the coast of Saint Raphael or the red cliffs of Esterel. Detours take you through picturesque villages set against a dazzling sky crowning the hills- Antibes, Juan-les-Pins, Vallauris, Mougins. The French Riviera was the home of artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Fernard Leger, Henri Matisse, Pierre-Auguste Renoir who lived and loved there, painting and repainting the scenery. Its mild climate, the light bathing its coast, the charm of its coastal resorts and its hilltop villages have inspired some of their greatest works. Others who came exclusively during the summer holidays, found refuge and inspiration in iconic places such as the Villa Soleil, now the Eden Roc; a legendary mansion on the tip of the Cap d’Antibes, especially popular during the Cannes Film Festival.

You may think that the Riviera suddenly stops at the French border, but it continues to become the Italian Riviera, the sleepy village of Portofino its jewel, with its typical tall and colourful houses lined up in tight rows on the piazetta. Follow the steep mountainous coastline to the Cinque Terre National Park, five unspoilt fishing villages that flank the cliffs like eagle’s nests with their bright, pastel-coloured houses. And at the foot of the steep cliffs, small creeks of turquoise water open into the Ligurian Sea. So many corners of paradise to discover with the MISIA PARIS 2021 collection.

The photoshoot for this collection took place in the luxurious Villa Gaby in Marseille. This 19th century Italian style villa was purchased by Gaby Deslys in 1918, the French singer and internationally renowned music-hall star. This villa is iconic because of its furnishings, its gardens and statues, works of art and its breath-taking view over the Mediterranean and the Frioul archipelago.
