Alta’s origins hark back to the long, creative-induced hours that were afforded by the pandemic when founders Alistair Tait (ex Schiavello, Geyer, Studio 103) and Steve Andreae (ex Schiavello, Jardan, Jimmy Possum) noticed a growing consumer frustration in the Australian design market due to high demand for quality furniture being hampered by long lead times, and high-retail mark-ups for imported products.

Alta put together a collective of local designers, upholsterers, makers, thinkers, and friends, all sharing a think-local philosophy, and Alta was born. Alta’s collections marry an aesthetic simplicity and meticulous focus on detail and finish, sprinkled with a distinct playfulness; a philosophy mirrored by their passion to offer quality service to customers.

Informed by over 60 years of collective experience in design and making, Alta’s goal is to elevate living, working, and hybrid spaces to a whole new level. All of their products are manufactured in Victoria, ensuring a high level of quality, abbreviated lead time, longevity, and sustainability; while classic design principles and skilled workmanship underlie both function and aesthetics.

The Textile Company wants to support Australian made furniture companies and are delighted to be the Alta distributors in NSW and Victoria. The furniture will be prominently displayed in our Sydney and Melbourne showrooms made up in fabrics from our amazing brand portfolio.
